Our lawn tractor has a 46" deck, a twin cylinder engine and weighs close to 400 pounds. I've been using those ramps made for automobiles to raise up this tractor and all my others for many years...Just to do service on the deck/blades/spindles. Using such ramps was the safest way I could figure out but it still severely limits the amount of room available to work beneath the lawn tractor.That's where this device saves the day! Just like the lift that mechanics use in an auto service bay, this lift gives me access to the undercarriage of our lawn tractors and does so in a very safe manner!Assembly of the device is very simple. I basically had to attach the Acme screw rod to the bearing plate in the base and insert the capture pin into the upper parts of the frame - this is the part that does all the raising and lowering.A hand crank is supplied to turn the Acme all thread rod, or I have the option of using my cordless drill to do all the turning work - an adapter with a hex shaft that fits easily into a drill chuck is right there - secured by a pin - on the end of the Acme threaded rod! Just as easy as it can be!Using this device is as simple as driving (or pushing) my tractor to get the wheels between the two cross beams of the frame and adjusting the width to fit to wheel base. This can be done on either the front OR back wheels - depending on which end I'm needing to raise and achieve access.As previously stated, raising and lowering is done by my cordless drill! It's practically effortless and is very safe, since the weight of the tractor applies lateral weight to the beams of the lift that capture the tires.In addition to doing all manner of mechanical repairs (blade changing/sharpening, quill lubrication etc) this lift also makes an excellent means by which to change the engine oil - by tilting the entire tractor to thoroughly drain the old oil from the crankcase - every last drop of old oil!Okay, so what about storing this thong, huh? No problems there either! The Acme lifting rod easily removes and this whole device folds up to a flat frame less than 2" thick - I'm installing some hooks on my garage wall to hang the frame and the Acme rod - it will be out of the way, but ready to put into service when I need it. It's a very convenient design!Folks, I highly recommend this device if you own a lawn tractor. If you want to do ANY service to the deck or undercarriage - be safe and use this lift.You'll be glad to have this in your garage or barn.Two thumbs up for a device that adds safety & convenience to my service routines!
