I purchased these to help in painting my house. I am getting up in years and not able to work as fast as I used to so I knew the job would take awhile. I looked into renting scaffolding and it would cost around $350 for one week. I was able to purchase these and the materials for making the platform, plus some 3/4" emt conduit for cross bracing for about half the cost of the rental. It took some trial and error for me to get things set up but once I figured it out it worked well. I don't think I would feel as safe without the cross bracing as the ladders do have some sideways sway. This is especially noticeable if they are extended very high. I also ran a piece of 3/4" emt through the rungs of both ladders to provide a grab bar. I've attached a picture to show how it was configured. I am very pleased with this purchase. They don't provide as much working space as scaffolding but they are much easier to move and take up a lot less space when storing.
